One of the foremost string ensembles on the international stage today, the American String Quartet is renowned for its precise ensemble mastery, captivating performances, elegant stage presence, fresh interpretations and musical depth.


The Quartet is celebrated not only for its command of the traditional ensemble repertoire, but for contemporary works as well, and has commissioned and given premieres of works by many distinguished composers, including Claus Adam, Richard Danielpour, Kenneth Fuchs, Tobias Picker and George Tsontakis. The American String Quartet’s innovative programming and creative approach to education has resulted in numerous notable residencies, among them
Princeton University, the Peabody Conservatory, Rice University’s Shepard School of Music and The University of Michigan.

The ensemble continues its relationships with the Manhattan School of Music (1984 through present) and the Aspen Music Festival (1974 through present). A professional ensemble since 1975, the American String Quartet was formed in 1974 when its original members were students at The Juilliard School. The ensemble was launched by win- ning both the Coleman Competition and the Naumburg Chamber Music Award in the same year.

Founded in 2005 by renowned violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, NSS MUSIC aims to be a haven for performing artists and, with a special emphasis on live performances, to release recordings of new and established works by musicians across the musical genres.
